I am taking a graduate class on Social Responsibility. The facilitator directed us to your website. I have chosen this lesson plan as a springboard to be used in my Family and Consumer Science classes. Each quarter my 8th grade students research local organizations, take part in a fundraising drive, and donate our profits. Four local organizations will benefit this year. Thank you for the great ideas and resources.

This lesson plan served as springboard to teach civic responsibility and giving back to our community. Every year, the Interact Club selects one or more organizations, programs, or countries to receive their financial support. After the lesson, we decided to work with the Kidney Foundation. We had a day of learning with the Kidney Foundation of Florida. Dialysis patients came to talk to the kids about their experiences. Our service event will culminate with the Kidney Walk. We raised money by selling T-shirts of the walk, cake sales, and car wash. This lesson is a great starter.
